ALBANY, NY – CAP COM Federal Credit Union and its charitable giving arm, the CAP COM Cares Foundation, has announced eight lucky winners of the fall BIG Benefit Raffle fundraiser. Proceeds from the raffle support the CAP COM Cares Foundation’s community outreach and scholarship programs, while delivering BIG cash prizes ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.
For the first time this fall, the Foundation donated $3 from each ticket sold to Make-A-Wish® Northeast New York in order to help grant the wish of a local child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. With a $10,500 contribution CAP COM was able to grant Avery Lyons, 3, the wish of a lifetime – a trip to Walt Disney World with her family.
“This trip was the light at the end of our tunnel. It gave us something to look forward to after two and a half years of cancer treatments. It was a dream come true,” said Avery’s mother Erika Lyons.
“When we help make these wishes come true it instills hope and reinforces family bonds so that they are stronger for the journey ahead,” said CAP COM President/CEO Paula A. Stopera, chairperson of the Foundation board.
For BIG Benefit Raffle participants, this gift of granting a wish to a child added a very special element to this year’s drawing. CAP COM staff and volunteers gathered in the lobby of the CAP COM Financial Center on Wednesday, November 18, with members of the Lyons family while the winning raffle tickets were drawn.
“We are immensely grateful for this contribution, as well as this exciting new partnership with CAP COM Federal Credit Union,” said Bill Trigg, III, CEO of Make-A-Wish Northeast New York. “We treasure an opportunity like today to bring donors together with the Wish Children whom they sponsor to witness firsthand the true impact of their support. To be able to have the CAP COM family meet Wish Child Avery and her family today is very gratifying.”
