1,000+ School Backpacks Delivered for Local Kids

CAP COM Federal Credit Union’s charitable giving arm, the CAP COM Cares Foundation, has once again completed its annual backpack program. Annually, CAP COM Cares provides backpacks filled with school supplies to local children in need. This year, volunteers delivered 1,020 backpacks to 26 community organizations and schools throughout the Capital Region.

New backpacks were filled with notebooks, folders, pencils, crayons, rulers, glue sticks and other school supplies. Fifty-eight CAP COM employees volunteered their time to assemble, pack and deliver the backpacks July 22 – 26. Young people at the following organizations benefited: Capital District YMCA, Centro Civico, CEO, Equinox Youth Shelter, Franklin Community Center, Girls Inc. of the Greater Capital District, Joseph’s House, Marillac Family Shelter, Shelters of Saratoga, St. Catherine’s Center for Children, St. Paul’s Center, Geyser Elementary, Abram Lansing, Harmony Hill, Heatly Elementary, LaSalle School, Menands School, Orenda Elementary, Rensselaer Park, Rensselaer County Department for Youth, School 14, School 16, School 18, Turnpike Elementary, Van Schaick School and Watervliet Elementary.

"We know that giving back to our communities makes our world a better place. And, making a positive impact requires us all to join in,” noted Paige Rueckert, Community & Youth Advocate at CAP COM. “Together with our volunteers, we supplied backpacks to help hundreds of local children thrive at school. These children are our future and if we can empower them to embrace education and learning all year long, we’ve succeeded."
